The Deliverer - Bro. T. Stephen

My Dear Brothers and Sisters greet and bless everyone in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. The blessed word that God has given for you today, is from the book  of  Numbers 12:3, “ Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.”

My dear Brothers and Sisters, from the above context we come to know the character of Moses. God testified that Moses was the meekest man found on the face of the earth. He was raised as the heir to the throne of Egypt. Though Moses grew in the house of Pharaoh but when he became of age, he refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, and chose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin. Moses’ parents were from the tribe of Levi, called the Hebrews. The Hebrews had been in Egypt for generations but gradually they became a threat to the people of Egyptians. So Pharaoh had enslaved them. When Moses was 25 years of age, he went about inspecting his people. There he saw the oppressive measures under which they were laboured. When he found an Egyptian taskmaster, beating a Hebrew probably to death he couldn’t control himself any longer, so when he made sure that he was not in sight he killed the tough Egyptian lord.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters,  Moses was probably in excellent physical condition, and he knew the latest method of combat. Next time he found two Hebrews fighting. He tried to mediate their disagreement. But questions by the Hebrew men jolted him. The confidence of the deliverer turned into fear. He knew that soon Pharaoh would come to know of his action. Therefore he fled to Median. There he stayed on with Jethro, and eventually married his daughter  Zipporah. While he was tending his sheep he saw a burning bush and it was here that he had an encounter with Yahweh, the God of Abraham,  Isaac,  and Jacob. Even though he had been so zealous in the past to help his own people,   now when he was called by God to deliver the people of Israel, he was reluctant to accept Yahweh’s call. He hesitated to accept his call because he was a stammerer. God promised to help him in his mission. God appointed his brother to be his spokesperson.  Therefore he obeyed God in bringing out the people of Israel to the Promised Land “Canaan” to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, Moses spent nearly 40 years in Pharaoh’s house. He learnt every form of art in combat and proved to be an expert ready to inherit the throne. But later he fled to Median and spent another 40 years, tending his uncle Jethro’s  sheep. God was all the time preparing him for a greater task. God changed him from a tough man to a mild and meek person such that he could lead a stiff-necked nation out of Egypt to the land of Canaan. God looked upon the lowly and downtrodden state of the people of Israel His chosen people and delivered them.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters,  God  watches over you day in and day out. God thinks upon you even though you are poor and needy.  The Lord lifts up the humble and downtrodden. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap to seat him among princes. God will raise you up and glorify you as He chose Moses and caused him to perform a greater task for God. He was a great prophet who led the people of Israel through the desert into the land of Canaan. God will lead you also and guide you if you will obey his call.

Prayer: Our loving heavenly Father, we thank  You for this blessed day. Lord we thank you for choosing Moses the stammerer to deliver the people of Israel. Not only You chose him but also moulded him for Your good purpose.  Lord mould us also that we may carry out Your task diligently. Help us to be bold and   courageous to face the enemy who  come against us. Teach us to be meek and mild in our nature. May we obey Your call and accomplish Your plan and purpose in our life.

In Jesus name we pray.

Amen.
