God Saved David. - Bro. T. Stephen

My dear Brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet and bless everyone in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.  The blessed word that God has given you for today is from the book of  Psalms 34:6, “This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him from all his troubles.”

My Dear Brothers and Sisters,  By saying “This poor man cried” – The psalmist,  remembers his own experience. The emphasis here is on the word “this:” “This poor, afflicted, persecuted man cried.” The phrase “This Poor” brings before us at once, his afflicted and miserable condition. The word “poor” here does not mean “poor” in the sense of poverty, but “poor” in the sense of being afflicted, crushed, forsaken, desolate. The word “miserable” would be   more suitable   than the word “poor.” And the Lord heard him – God regarded his cry, and saved him. “This poor man cried” shows,  that  people of God, who are  poor and afflicted, cry unto the Lord to be rescued from their trouble. This may refer to David himself, who was poor, in spirit; and was much afflicted.  And greatly distressed when  he was  in the court of Achish  the king of Gath.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, Though David who killed Goliath the Philistine giant, and brought victory  to Israel,  had opportunities to kill King Saul, but he refused to kill him as Saul was the anointed king of Israel. But Saul kept chasing him to kill him as God had anointed him to be the next king of Israel. Saul and three thousand soldiers were searching for David, so he sought the help of  Achish  the king of  Gath.  He took pity on  David and permitted him to  stay in his land for one year and four months.  It was at this point of time that David lifted up his heart and cried out to God. The Lord heard his cry and showed mercy to him through king Achish. Because David feared King Saul and  fled to Gath. Achish was pleased with David and agreed to give him protection in his land.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, Even though his life was in danger David was worried about his parents. He requested the king of Moab to take care of them, until David became the king of Israel. He was in pain, great distress, and misery while he was running for his life. He was in the strong hold of king Saul. At that point of time he cried unto the Lord and God heard his cry and rescued him from all his troubles.  We see how God spared the life of David from the cruel hand of  King Saul.  Achish king of Gath tells David, “I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me.” David walked wisely before God.

My Dear Brothers and sisters,   thus God not only spared David’s   life but also saved his because he walked wisely in all his ways.  Having experienced much bitterness in his life David tells, that the angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him and delivers him from all his troubles. He makes God his confidence. God will be your confidence too if you rely on Him completely. Even in the most trying period of your life He is more than enough to solve all your problems. Therefore cast your care upon him and He will sustain you. He will not allow the righteous to be moved.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, even you might be going through similar situation like David. You may be chased by your own husband, your son, daughter, sister, brother, uncle or aunty. Why it could be your own parents. They are chasing you, to destroy you for some reason or other. They hate you with bitter hatred. You might have borrowed a huge sum of money from someone and the creditor might be chasing you. You might have been caught by the police for misbehaving, disobeying traffic rules, or for robbery. So you are being chased by the police.   Whatever the reason might be you are being chased. And you need the mercy of God. Only He can save you. So you cry unto him.  God will hear your cry and save you from your difficult situation. Cling to Him for help. The Bible says, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.”The God of Jacob will be your refuge. You will be delivered from the hand of your enemy.  Just as God made a hedge of protection over Job, and his household, and all that he had, God will put a hedge of covering over you and your household. No  weapon formed against you will prosper if you obey the commandments of God and fear the Lord at all times. He will save you from the hands of the violent man. God   bless  you.

Prayer:  Our loving heavenly Father, we thank You for this blessed day. We praise you because You spared the life of Your servant David, from the hand of the  cruel king Saul.   From a poor shepherd boy You rose David, to that of a king. Therefore we praise You.  Thank You Lord for  being his confidence. Help us also  to totally put our  trust in you.  Spare our lives   from destruction. Teach us to obey your commandments, and fear the Lord at all times.

 In Jesus name we pray.

Amen.
