My Dear Brothers and Sisters, I greet and bless everyone in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. The blessed word that God has given for you today is from the book, Luke 10:42 “But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Once when Jesus went to Bethany Martha demonstrated hospitality by welcoming Jesus into her home. She then kept herself busy with her task of serving her guest. Maybe she was preparing a meal in her home for her family. In the
Martha was distracted by many tasks. And therefore she asks Jesus, “Lord do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” Many may empathize with Martha’s resentment of her sister for leaving her to do all the work. But Jesus responded to Martha, saying “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things, there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part which will not be taken away from her. “
The Problem with Martha is not that she was busy serving and providing hospitality but she was worried and distracted about many things of this world. Martha’s worry and distraction prevented her from being truly present with Jesus. Martha had missed out on the “one thing needed” for true hospitality. There is no greater hospitality than listening to your guest Jesus. So Jesus says, that Mary has chosen the better part which will not be taken away from her.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, are you worried over things of this Earth. Or have you set your mind on Jesus? Learn to spend time at the feet of Jesus. Through prayer, Bible reading, and singing. Jesus Himself had said, that Mary had chosen that good part which would not be taken away from her. Mary did not care about the things of this world. She was more attracted to Jesus. If we abide in Him, He will abide in us. The Bible says He who is of God hears God’s word. And if anyone keeps Gods word he shall live forever. So if you seek God you shall be richly blessed.
God bless you.
Prayer:
Our loving heavenly Father, we thank You for this blessed day. Lord May we have the desire to sit at your feet, and not in the counsel of the ungodly. Nor shall we stand in the way of sinners. But help us to delight in the law of the Lord. Teach us not to set our heart in the things of this world, but in the things of God. So that we may prosper in all that we do. In Jesus name we pray.
Amen.
