Bring up Your Children In The Fear Of God. - Bro. T. Stephen

I greet and bless everyone in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. The blessed word that God has given for you , today is from the book of Proverbs 22:6 “ Train up a child in the way he should grow, And when he is old, he will not depart from it. ”

From the above passage we understand that we need to train up our children in the way we should. Both in the fear and the knowledge of God. The Bible says, A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. Therefore we should be more careful to grow our children in such a way that they may get and keep a good name, rather than to raise them up to a great estate. So we need to train children, not in the way they would go, that of their corrupt hearts, but in the way they should go; in which, if you love them, you would have them go. As soon as possible every child should be led to the knowledge of God. Sin is foolishness, it is in the heart, and there is an inward inclination to sin: children bring it into the world with them; and it cleaves close to the soul. We all need to be corrected by our heavenly Father. We are but stewards, and must distribute what God entrusts to our care, according to his will.
Parenting takes about eighteen years to finally figure out, what sort of children we have grown them to be. When they reach -adult “teenagers,” we scratch our heads and pull out our rapidly greying hair. Then and only then, about the time they turn eighteen, it dawns on us that we have graduated our children to good or bad adults. These words, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it,” sounds so simple, but takes time to really know how good or bad your daughter or son is.

Paul tells us to, “bring up our children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” So, we bring them to church and send them to Sunday school. When bed time comes we pray the Lord’s Prayer together with them. Our speech, our moods, our preferences, our quirks, our outbursts soak them all in and replicate them in their own tiny lives. You see, we’re never training our children in the right way. It just so happens that some of the training is undesirable at best and downright despicable at worst.

And while we’re thanking God, let’s thank him for the promise in Proverbs 22:6, which really means “Dedicate a child according to His way: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” In other words, “Dear parents, your own children are not your own. They are more importantly, Heavenly Father’s children. You love them, of course, but God loves them more, loves them perfectly. His gracious will is to dwell within them, to make their very bodies and souls and hearts and minds a temple of his Spirit. So dedicate them to that way, to that divine life, to him who formed them in the womb and claimed them on the cross.”As important as the training of your children is, much more important is handing them over to God—from the very beginning, from infancy, and beyond.

May the Lord help you to grow your children in the right way that they may bring glory and honor to you parents. God bless you.

Prayer: Our loving heavenly Father, we thank You for this blessed day. Lord, teach us to bring up our children in the fear and knowledge of God. That would help them to get a good name in the society. Teach us to train up our children in the way they should go. Help us to understand our children better and not just underestimate them. May we be role model for them to grow as better citizens, and true Christian. In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.
